Assign Device Drivers

Serial Configuration

The Serial Configuration tab of Global Configurator allows you to associate a device driver to each serial port of the device.

To assign a device driver:

  1. In the IP Link® Tree window, select a serial port.  The Serial Configuration tab opens.

  2. In the Serial Driver Selection section, select a device type.

  3. Select a manufacturer.

  4. Select the Show All Versions check box to show all versions of the drivers.  This is optional.  If the Show All Versions check box is deselected, only the latest version appears in the Available Drivers section.

  5. In the Available Drivers section, select an available driver.

  6. Click the Add Driver button.  The selected driver is displayed in the Added Driver section (7) and in the IP Link Tree window.

Ethernet Configuration

The Ethernet Configuration tab of Global Configurator allows you to associate a device driver to each Ethernet port of the device.

To assign a device driver:

  1. In the IP Link® Tree window, select an Ethernet port.  The Ethernet Configuration tab opens.

  2. From the Device Type drop-down list, select the type of device to associate with the port.

  3. From the Manufacturer drop-down list, select a manufacturer.

  4. Select the Show All Versions check box to show all versions of the drivers.  This is optional.  If the Show All Versions check box is deselected, only the latest version appears in the Available Drivers section.

  5. In the Available Driver section, select an available device driver.

  6. Click the Add Driver button.  The selected device driver is displayed in the Added Driver section and in the IP Link Tree window.

GlobalViewer® control buttons

When a device driver is selected as described above, the GlobalViewer Driver Command and State Configuration section is populated with the names of control buttons that will be displayed for this device in the GlobalViewer interface.

In the Driver Command and State Configuration section, you can:

  • Deactivate or reactivate the buttons and functions by clicking on their respective check boxes.

  • Change the function name by selecting the function and clicking on the Pencil icon in the top, right corner, or by right-clicking a function name and selecting Rename from the drop-down list.

  • Change the vertical positions of the functions by selecting a function and using the Up and Down Arrows to move the selected function up or down in the tree.

Note:  Before changes are viewable in GlobalViewer, you must perform the build and upload process in Global Configurator.

To view the buttons in the GlobalViewer web page:

  1. In the IP Link Tree window, select the GlobalViewer host device.

  2. Right-click the host device and select Open GlobalViewer Webpage from the drop-down list.  The GlobalViewer web page opens.

  3. Expand the GlobalViewer tree in the left pane.

  4. Select the desired device.  The control buttons of the device are displayed on the Control page.  These buttons match the selections made in the Driver Command and State Configuration section in Global Configurator.

GlobalViewer Info section

In the lower right corner of the Driver Configuration tab is the GlobalViewer Info section. Here you can enter relevant information about the selected device that will appear on the Info tab of GlobalViewer (see below).

To add information:

  1. In the IP Link Tree window, select a serial port.  The Serial Configuration tab opens.

  2. In the Label field of the GlobalViewer Info section, enter a unique label name.

  3. In the Description field, enter the item description.

  4. Click the Add button.  The label and description are displayed in the GlobalViewer Info section (5) and on the Info tab in GlobalViewer.

Note:  Before changes are viewable in GlobalViewer, you must perform the build and upload process in Global Configurator.

To view the added information in the GlobalViewer web page:

  1. In the IP Link Tree window, select the GlobalViewer host device.

  2. Right-click the host device and select Open GlobalViewer Webpage from the drop-down list.  The GlobalViewer web page opens (see below).

  3. Expand the GlobalViewer tree in the left pane by clicking the + sign.

  4. Select the desired device.

  5. Click the Info tab at the top of the right window pane.  The added information (6) displays at the bottom of the page.
