Emulate vs. Live Mode OperationThe DSP Configurator has two operational modes: Emulate mode and Live mode. Emulate mode allows you to work offline from the device and save your work to disk. Connect to the device in Live mode to load your file onto the device, or make changes to your configuration in real time. There are two methods of synchronizing the device with the DSP Configurator file when entering Live mode: push data or pull data. Both are described below in Step 3. Normal workflow is to create a configuration and a set of presets in Emulate mode, save the file, and then push the file to the device when connecting in Live mode. When a "pull data" synchronization method is performed, preset data remains in the device, and only the list of preset names is pulled from the device. Presets in this state are marked with an asterisk (see Preset Overview), until the preset is recalled or a backup is performed (see Backup Device). If you intend to save presets to the device while in Live mode, see DSP Usage for more information. Emulate Mode to Live ModeTo go from Emulate Mode to Live Mode: 1. From Emulate mode, click the Live button. (You may also press F5 to toggle between modes, or use the Tab key to move to the Live button, then press Enter.) A dialog appears with two tabs providing connection options. • RS-232
• TCP/IP (recommended for configuring DSP)
2. Enter necessary data, then click OK. 3. The Synchronize with Device dialog appears. Choose a method to synchronize the software with the device from the following options. • Pull data from device and update this configuration (default). Download device settings from the device and synchronize with the DSP Configurator. This will overwrite the current DSP Configurator settings. • Push the data from this configuration to device, overwriting any data currently in it. Upload DSP Configurator settings to the device and overwrite the device settings. Selecting this option enables an Advanced button with the following options.
When Push Presets is selected, the following radio buttons become available.
4. If you are using the standard Push or Pull, skip this step. If you have selected a Custom push method from the Advanced dialog, click OK to return to the Synchronize with Device screen. 5. Click OK. If a proper connection to the device is not established and the device is not discovered, an error message appears indicating "Could not connect to the device... ." When a connection is established, the selected operation is performed. If you have chosen Custom | Push Presets | Selected, a dialog appears from which you may select the presets you wish to push to the device. If Sync DSP Configurator to MPX is chosen and the file you are working from has unsaved information, a dialog will ask you if you would like to save before connecting to the device. Select Yes or No. Choosing Yes will open a Save window. Live Mode to Emulate ModeTo go from Live Mode to Emulate Mode: 1. From Live mode, click the Emulate button. 2. A Confirm dialog asks you if you are sure you want to disconnect (from the device). Click OK. 3. The DSP Configurator reverts to Emulate mode after disconnection from the device. The Current State name changes to Current Emulation. While in Live mode, the Open command in the File menu is unavailable, and a file may not be opened from disk. Conversely, a file may be saved while in Live mode. However, only presets that are already part of the file, or presets created while in Live mode will be saved with the file. Presets that exist only in the device will not be saved with the file. |
